Her account sent out a message that simply read, "The Queen's Gambit 2," which was promptly deleted. Shortly after, Taylor-Joy took to Instagram to reveal that her Twitter account was hacked, and she did not post the deleted tweet. Therefore, the tease about The Queen's Gambit season 2 is untrue.
While The Queen Gambit's status as a limited series renders a season 2 unlikely, it doesn't rule it out entirely. There have been a few recent shows, such as HBO's The White Lotus and Big Little Lies, which were originally billed as limited series, but then received second seasons. The White Lotus made this possible by adopting an anthology format, while Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty wrote an additional novella so the HBO show could continue the story.
Despite the odds being stacked against it, Anya Taylor-Joy has expressed interest in The Queen's Gambit season 2, saying she would "jump at the chance" to return. The Netflix show's massive popularity and critical acclaim combined with Taylor-Joy's affinity for the show means there will always be a slim possibility of season 2.
