The Galveston-area city didn’t face the intensity of a tornado, but strong straight-line winds scattered trees and branches across neighborhoods and even caused some people to lose power.Perla Villanova woke up to see her fence overwhelmed with tree branches. Her shed was turned on its side. A tree nearly hit their home while they were sleeping.

“I was in this room with my baby and the tree almost hit the window. I was scared,” Villanova said. “It was pretty bad because I was asleep and then it woke me up… It was sounding like it was hail.”“It’s really scary, because it just happened and it’s the last thing we expected,” Arianna Campos, a Dickinson resident said.

The city manager told KPRC 2 that crews have been working since midnight to get everything cleaned up.
