Actor Dick Van Dyke, 95, sits down with TODAY’s Al Roker to reflect on his decades long career ahead of receiving the Kennedy Center Honors. Dick Van Dyke may be 98 years old, but he has no plans to slow down. On Sept. 7, the legendary funnyman won the award for outstanding variety special at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards for his 2023 birthday special, “Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic.” While speaking to reporters backstage afterward, Van Dyke was asked about his legacy and how he wants to be remembered. “For laughter, I hope, for making people laugh for 75 years. I’ve been in the business 75 years.
In June, he won a Daytime Emmy Award for guest performer in a daytime drama series for his role on Peacock’s “Days of Our Lives,” making him the oldest actor to win a Daytime Emmy. That Emmy came six decades after he notched his first Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding continued performance by an actor in a series for his groundbreaking sitcom, “The Dick Van Dyke Show.
