Cheney will receive full military honors at the National Cathedral, with more than 1,000 guests, including former Presidents George W. Bush and Joe Biden, set to attend. Former VPs Kamala Harris, Mike Pence, Al Gore and Dan Quayle were also invited, along with Cabinet officials and congressional leaders such as Nancy Pelosi, John Thune and Mitch McConnell. The service begins at 11 am ET, with remarks from Bush, Liz Cheney and Cheney’s grandchildren. Cheney, who served as Vice President from 2001 to 2009 and previously as Defense Secretary, White House Chief of Staff, and a Congressman for Wyoming, died November 3 at 84. His powerful tenure and role in the Iraq War left him with a polarizing legacy. Although Cheney supported Trump in 2016, he later condemned him, saying in 2022 that no one was a “greater threat to our republic.” Trump has not commented on Cheney’s death. The White House offered a muted response, noting that Trump was “aware” and that flags were lowered to half-staff. Honorary pallbearers include members of Cheney’s Secret Service detail, David Addington, Scooter Libby and photographer David Hume Kennerly. This is the name that will be displayed next to your photo for comments, blog posts, and more.
