We chat with Diane Lane & Michael Gandolfini about how their characters, Martha and Rowan, deal with the constantly changing world in the AppleTVlPlus series Extrapolations
Apple TV's newest series Extrapolations has global ambitions, tackling the real-world issue of climate change and envisioning a near future in which the planet is on the verge of destruction because of it. Each episode is set in a different year, and each set of characters must face moral dilemmas and life-or-death decisions that sometimes sacrifice comfort for safety.
Screen Rant spoke to Lane and Gandolfini, whose storylines kick into high gear this week, about their Extrapolations characters and their motivations. Lane shared where she feels Martha falls in the complex moral schematic of the series, while Gandolfini discussed how Rowan's family members affect his outlook.
A big thing is that Rowan's dad at one point believed in geoengineering and taught him about it, and then sort of changed his mind. People get to change their minds, but sometimes, someone's whole ideals can change. And when you're a kid, and you grow up learning one thing, and someone says, "Actually, no..." Or you marry a [new] partner, and your husband or wife changes their whole ideals, it's very confusing.
It was interesting to me to finally get to see the show after having filmed it, because of how it fits into the storyline of the different episodes and characters. Watching Kit Harrington from before [was interesting], since I didn't get to see him looking like that, because it was many years earlier in the story.
