Diane Abbott suspended by Labour after suggesting Travellers, Irish and Jewish people don’t experience racism
She was responding to an opinion piece that was in the newspaper earlier in the month by writer Tomiwa Owolade, that argued racism in Britain was “far more complicated” than a “black and white issue”. “It is true that many types of white people with points of difference, such as redheads, can experience this prejudice. But they are not all their lives subject to racism.
A Labour Party spokesperson confirmed on Sunday that Ms Abbott has had the whip suspended over the remarks.
