Drey Jameson has made three appearances out of the bullpen this season. Now, he will shift into the rotation.

Moldovan, a Phoenix police officer shot on duty in 2021, threw the first pitch at the Arizona Diamondbacks' 2023 home opener game against the Dodgers.Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo announced Sunday that the club will move Drey Jameson into its starting rotation to fill the void left by Zach Davies, who suffered a left oblique strain on Saturday.

In three relief appearances thus far, Jameson had pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowed two runs, struck out eight and walked five. His first appearance was a 66-pitch, four-inning outing against the Dodgers in the second game of the season. His last two appearances, though, were 38 and 26 pitches, respectively.

In the past, the Diamondbacks have been more willing to move pitchers between the rotation and bullpen. That strategy, though, has sometimes led to injuries — a fear general manager Mike Hazen expressed in spring training. “If we were at the edge of and we were playing with danger, I don't think this decision would've been made,” Lovullo said.
