Reliever Scott McGough, 33, could be just what the Arizona Diamondbacks have been seeking for their bullpen.
But McGough wound up liking Japan so much he stayed longer than he initially expected.
“He’s got all the weapons, I’ll tell you that right now,” Diamondbacks bullpen coach Mike Fetters said. “Now, it’s just a matter of execution.” McGough said “quite a few teams” showed interest in him but he thought the Diamondbacks were the “right fit.” “For me, it’s how can we win,” he said. “When we win, everybody has more fun and it’s a way better season. If I throw the fourth inning, hey, that’s what it is. I’m cool with that. Whatever they want me to do, I’m cool.”Right-hander Corbin Martin said he has a strained lat tendon under his right shoulder and is seeking multiple opinions on whether he will require surgery or not. Either way, he is likely to miss an extended period of time.
