Matt Waldron allows career-high eight runs in three-plus innings, Padres' winning streak stopped at four gamesfour-

Diamondbacks pitcher Ryne Nelson set down the Padres in order to start Sunday afternoon's game. By the time there was another 1-2-3 half-inning, the Diamondbacks led 6-4 at the end of the third. An inning later, the game was no longer close. Matt Waldron turned in the shortest and altogether ugliest of his 13 career starts, as the Diamondbacks beat the Padres 11-4 to avoid a sweep at the hands of the previously streaking Padres.

The Padres got three-quarters of the runs back in the top of the second inning with a two-out burst that saw Xander Bogaerts single, Jackson Merrill homer, Ha-Seong Kim walk and Kyle Higashioka double before Luis Arraez grounded out. Waldron almost didn’t make it through the second. After beginning the bottom of the inning with a walk to Tucker Barnhart, who moved to second on a wild pitch, an RBI single by Jake McCarthy and a walk to Ketel Marte, Waldron was at 38 pitches.
