The future of the iconic Diamond Previews catalogue is in doubt following the bankruptcy filing of Diamond Comic Distributors. While writer Allyn Gibson assures fans he's continuing work on the March 2025 issue, a significant debt to printer Transcontinental Inc. casts a shadow over the catalogue's survival. The next issue is already delayed, and the industry anxiously awaits its fate.

For eighteen years, Allyn Gibson has been the writer behind the Diamond Previews catalogue, the massive compendium that lists, advertises, and previews all the latest offerings from Diamond Comic Distributors . Over the decades, the catalogue has grown in size, even as major publishers like Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, and Dark Horse have distanced themselves from it. Somehow, it has managed to get even bigger.

While the Previews catalogue has faced criticism over the years, looking back, it provides a wealth of historical and cultural context for the comic book industry, spanning over thirty years of publication. Copies have even become collectible when someone decides that a particular issue marks the first appearance of a character. Recently, Diamond Comic Distributors filed for bankruptcy, and among its creditors is Transcontinental Inc., the printer responsible for producing Previews and all of Diamond's catalogues and order forms. Transcontinental is owed a significant sum of $243,541.48, casting a shadow of doubt over the future of the Previews catalogue. In fact, the next volume is already scheduled to be a week late. Despite this uncertainty, Allyn Gibson, on his blog, assures readers that 'I have a job, and I remain hard at work. I began my work on the March 2025 catalog on Wednesday.' However, this doesn't necessarily guarantee publication and printing; he also worked on the May 2020 Previews catalogue, which was ultimately never printed due to the pandemic-related lockdown that allowed DC Comics, and subsequently other major publishers, to withdraw their exclusive distribution deals with Diamond, setting off the chain of events leading to the current situation. Allyn also reflects on his long-standing relationship with Diamond, stating 'Diamond has been a part of my life since 1991. (A vintage 1991 shipping box is in my closet.) I saw my work on PREVIEWS as a great responsibility–it is the tool of the comics industry–and I always tried to do right by the publishers, the readers, the industry as a whole.' He echoes his sentiments from when the lockdown first hit, saying 'All I can do is to do the best job I can do today, and I will deal with tomorrow when it comes. If we go down, at least I will know I did everything I could.' This includes updating his LinkedIn profile, suggesting a level of cautious optimism about the future
