A Texas man pleaded guilty to assaulting a gate agent at DFW Airport after attempting to board a flight without scanning his boarding pass.
Last fall, Keith Charles Owens, 53, pleaded guilty this week to interfering with security personnel, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas. Owens was indicted in November and pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of interference with security screening personnel. Security footage showed Owens repeatedly punching a gate agent at DFW Airport on October 5th, according to the attorney’s office news release. Shortly before 4:45 p.m.
, Owens approached a gate agent at gate A36, said he was late, and tried to scan his boarding pass. Owens cursed and walked away as the agent radioed the correct gate, A35, to alert them that Owens, who appeared to be intoxicated, was heading their way. Owens walked onto the A35 jet bridge without scanning his boarding pass, and airline personnel removed him from the area. A few minutes later, Owens returned to gate A36 where he yelled at the gate agent, grabbed him by the shoulders, and punched him repeatedly in the face and neck before other airline personnel restrained him. The gate agent and at least one other person sustained minor injuries, and the flight departing from gate A36 was delayed. The case highlights the escalating issue of unruly passenger behavior at airports nationwide
