Hall was revealed to be the Dark Passenger voice narrator of Patrick Gibson's new younger Dexter Morgan, which came as a shocking surprise to those in attendance at the Dexter: Original Sin SDCC 2024 panel. This news also came with the major announcement that Michael C. Hall will also star in a new sequel series titled Dexter: Resurrection. Dexter: Resurrection will be developed by New Blood and Original Sin showrunner Clyde Phillips and will begin production in January 2025. The Dexter: Original Sin SDCC 2024 panel also confirmed that the new prequel series will be released in December 2024 exclusively on Paramount+ with Showtime. Dexter: Original Sin will feature the return of several original characters with fresh new faces, including Dexter's sister Debra Morgan and Dexter's father Harry Morgan . The series will also depict both of Dexter's mothers. Dexter newcomer Sarah Michelle Geller will also star in Dexter: Original Sin as Tanya Martin, Dexter's CSI boss at the Miami Metro Police Department. Dexter: Original Sin Is Set In 1991, 15 Years Before The Original Show The Dexter prequel is technically a period piece Dexter: Original Sin will take place in 1991 in Miami, which is exactly 15 years before the show premiered on Showtime in 2006. As such, Dexter Morgan will be played by a younger actor Patrick Gibson who is just getting started in his CSI career as a blood spatter analyst at Miami Metro PD. It will be the first time that the audience gets to see Harry Morgan on screen while that character is living outside of various flashback scenes and appearances as a part of Dexter's conscience. The time period will reflect the culture and sentiments of the early 1990s, making Dexter: Original Sin a modern period piece. Dexter: Original Sin will bring back the original characters of Angel Batista, María LaGuerta, and Vince Masuka and chronicle their early days at Miami Metro PD. The Dexter prequel series also recently cast Patrick Dempsey of Grey's Anatomy fame as a new character in the story world, Police Captain Aaron Spencer. Dexter: Original Sin Begins One Year After Doris Morgan's Death Both Doris Morgan & Laura Moser are cast in the Dexter prequel Dexter: Original Sin will begin one year after the death of Harry's wife and Debra's biological mother, Doris who will be played by Jasper Lewis in the prequel series. This detail was confirmed by Clyde Phillips at SDCC 2024. Dexter's biological mother, Laura Moser, will also appear in the series, portrayed by Brittany Allen . Both of Dexter's mothers will still be deceased at the start of Dexter: Original Sin, as in the original series, considering that Laura Moser was brutally murdered with a chainsaw in a freight container when Dexter and his brother Brian were born. Doris Morgan is referenced through all eight seasons of the original series but mostly as a supporting character to Harry Morgan, played by James Remar. Dexter does not have a close relationship with either of his mothers but he would certainly have had spent much more time with Doris than he would have with Laura, since Laura died before Dexter could even speak. Doris Morgan was portrayed by Kathrin Middleton in two episodes of the first season, one episode in the second season, and the season 7 premiere, all through flashback sequences. It's unclear how her death will affect the younger Dexter in Original Sin. With the new information that Dexter: Resurrection will extend Dexter's story even further into the future after he presumably died in both teh original Dexter series and in Dexter: New Blood, it will be quite interesting to instead go back in time to explore the origins of the character in Dexter: Original Sin. While New Blood was an exciting first step in expanding the greater Dexter universe, it was also an experiment that ended an 8-year silence about whether the acclaimed series would ever be revisited again.
