Devon Air Ambulance has announced the availability of two new landing sites in Kingskerswell and North Bovey, allowing their helicopters to land after dark without floodlights. The charity stated that floodlights were no longer necessary at surveyed landing sites, as their pilots are trained to use night vision goggles. The new community landing sites are expected to greatly benefit those in need of emergency critical care in the future.

The charity said floodlights were no longer required at surveyed landing sites following a review involving the Civil Aviation Authority . Graham Coates, landing site manager at Devon Air Ambulance, said improvements in night-flying technology meant the service was capable of landing at sites without lighting."Kingskerswell and North Bovey are our first community landing sites without lighting columns," he said.
