Devin Haney and Regis Prograis fought in December 2023, but the two men don’t appear to have any real beef with one another. That’s why Haney’s recent plea for his former opponent to retire lands slightly different from the normal toxicity we see in boxing.
Prograis has now lost two fights in a row, and the 35-year-old former two-time 140-pound champion’s record is now 29-3 with 24 KOs. He’s still never been stopped, and perhaps that’s why48 hours after the loss to Catterall to announce he had no intentions of retiring. The New Orleans native insists he will be champion again.
Prograis fans likely hope the Catterall fight is not the fill-in-the-blank for Rougarou. It’s tough to see where Prograis will go from here or what fight makes the most sense for him at this stage of his career. No one expects Prograis to take Haney’s advice, and by most standards, retiring now would be a little quicker than most expect. It will be interesting to see who Matchroom matches Prograis up against next and how long he sits without a fight. As for Haney, many are wondering when he will return to the ring. He has taken an extended absence from the ring after suffering three knockdowns at the hands of Ryan Garcia in their bitter clash in April.
