All-Star Devin Booker had his Moss Point (Miss.) High jersey retired Saturday afternoon at the school gym with his Phoenix Suns teammates present.
The entire Suns team made the trip to the town of less than 15,000 residents as Booker acknowledged them sitting in two rows to the side on the court.
“That’s insane,” Suns big Deandre Ayton said. “Actually seeing Devin Booker retire a jersey, it should be a movie to be honest. I know it means a lot to him. I’m just happy we got a chance to take timeout to do things like that and recognize him. Give him his day.” Booker’s teammates and coaches saw Booker receive unconditional love from fans seeking autographs and pictures. With the music thumping loud from a DJ in the back and excited fans swarming around him, Booker enjoyed every second of it.The Suns also got a up close look at where Booker discovered the competitive edge that fuels his play and grew as a person.
Suns guard Cameron Payne remembers being a rookie at Oklahoma City and returning to Lausanne Collegiate School right outside of Memphis for his high school jersey retirement in December 2015.“It’s super cool,” Payne said. Booker also Saturday announced he and his father are going to have the floor and locker room renewed.Moss Point showing Devin Booker ❤.
