DEVELOPING | E-hailing drivers in the Western Cape have joined the TaxiStrike

The chairperson of the Select Committee on Transport, Public Service and Administration, Public Works and Infrastructure, Kenneth Mmoiemang, has called on the national leadership of the South African National Taxi Council to meaningfully intervene in the strife between the taxi industry and the City of Cape Town.

He added:"Issues are understandable, but there are times when leaders need to be above and make unpopular concessions. It cannot be an approach that says, 'we will show you' or 'we are untouchable.'" He cautioned the people against committing acts of vandalism, including burning buses that have nothing to do with the taxi industry's tussles with the City.The University of Cape Town said it was concerned about the impact of the current strike action on staff and students.

"Staff and students are regrettably advised to expect some delays and, where possible, to make alternate travel arrangements," it said.Cape Town Traffic officers are attending to incidents of public violence on the N2.Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and proceed with caution.A Golden Arrow Bus Service driver has been shot in the leg during an ongoing taxi violence protest in Cape Town.
