“Most of them are in the 80 percent range, which you and I have had discussions about whether or not I consider that affordable,” Calvert said to Cohen. “I have my doubts about that today, but there is a missing middle, and you definitely want to support the middle class.” An affordability concession program is part of the deal, which means the county can use funds received from the project for affordable housing.Cross said they plan to seek historic tax credits for the project. They hope to begin construction in summer 2024, and the work is expected to take about 18 months.
Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores said she is pleased Lifshutz lives in the neighborhood and “developing an area that has been overlooked for way too long.”
