A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Tuesday, killing at least 14 people and injuring hundreds. The quake caused severe damage to infrastructure and the water supply in Port Vila, the capital. The earthquake hit at a depth of 57 kilometers (35 miles) and was centered 30 kilometers (19 miles) west of Port Vila. Rescue efforts continued for 30 hours after the quake, with dozens searching for survivors in the rubble of flattened buildings.
The country's internet service was also disrupted due to damage to the submarine cable
