Simone Fontecchio won't represent the Detroit Pistons on an international stage this summer.
dealt with a handful of notable injuries down the stretch of the 2023-2024 NBA season. One of their notable absences happened to be the in-season trade acquisition, Simone Fontecchio.
Unfortunately, Fontecchio won’t get the opportunity to compete for his country on an international stage, though. Following his surgery, Fontecchio released a statement on social media, confirming his eventual absence for Team Italy in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. With the Olympic Games out of the question for Fontecchio, the veteran sharpshooter’s focus will be on the next NBA season, where he could return to play for the Pistons.
