Westlake police officers, acting on a call on Aug. 7 from a private security company, arrested three men suspected of trying to steal automobiles from the Serpentini Chevrolet dealership on Detroit Road.
The security company at about midnight reported seeing two people wearing ski masks checking vehicle doors in the dealership lot after the dealership. Officers stopped an SUV on Hilliard Boulevard that matched a description of the suspect’s vehicle provided by the security company.
The group had come to Westlake from Detroit. Investigation revealed that the trio had no good reason to be in the area, according to a police press release. The SUV they were traveling in was stolen from Lanthrup Village, Mich. The vehicle identification number had been swapped out and a fraudulent license plate was on the SUV.
Officers learned that the 45-year-old Lorain driver had a suspended driver’s license and a warrant out of North Olmsted. He was cited for driving under suspension and moving violations.
