, a group of students is helping to fill the gap and provide non-surgical masks to medical professionals in need at hospitals in Metro Detroit, Chicago, and Indianapolis. The students — aged 8 through 13 — have been guided by Elena on how to sew the mask properly so that it can effectively be used by professionals., who reported the story on April 15. "People who haven’t sewn in years are pulling out their sewing machines.
Conducting the classes virtually, Elena shows the young students exactly how to make the mask before they ship them off to local hospitals. So far, they have reportedly made hundreds that have been sent to the Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. "Little acts of kindness throughout all of these,” Elena adds, “we need to be part of the solution as well. It says a lot about the community.
