A new Netflix crime thriller has earned a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score after its debut, proving that it is another major win for the streaming service. When it comes to crime thrillers, Prime Video remains the leading streaming service with its widely successful shows like Bosch, Cross, Reacher, and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan.

Considering how all of these franchises are going incredibly strong and even set to return with new installments soon, Prime Video will likely continue to reign supreme in the genre for a while. Netflix, too, however, seems to be gradually catching up. The streaming service is already the home of compelling crime thriller adaptations like The Night Agent. With its new addition to the genre, the streaming service seems to have landed another big win. Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole Is Another Crime Drama Win For Netflix In the crime drama genre, Netflix already has two major franchises under its belt: The Night Agent and The Lincoln Lawyer. Both series have been critical and commercial hits and only promise to get better with upcoming installments. Apart from the two shows, Netflix has also added a few acclaimed limited series like Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials to its catalog. While Netflix's winning streak in the genre comes nowhere close to Prime Video's big wins, the streaming service has been fairly consistent with its output. Netflix's momentum in the crime thriller genre continues to grow with its latest addition to the genre, Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole. The Norwegian crime drama has a total of nine episodes in its opening season and is led by Tobias Santelmann and Joel Kinnaman. It debuted with a solid 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, with many viewers and critics praising its performances and ability to keep one hooked. While it is too soon to tell whether Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole is as commercially successful as Netflix's other mainstream hits in the genre, its critical acclaim spells a bright future for it. The fact that it has a satisfying payoff towards the end of its first season that perfectly resolves all underlying story threads also assures that most viewers will end up completing it. Since completion rate alone can be one of the biggest parameters that defines a show's future, Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole might have a good chance of returning with more follow-ups. Only time will tell how Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole will ultimately perform on the streaming service. However, considering its critical success alone, it seems like Netflix has managed to land another big win in the crime thriller genre. Detective Hole Is Another Netflix Series Based On A Popular Book Series Like most modern crime thrillers on the small screen, Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole is also based on a book series. Written by Jo Nesbø, the Harry Hole book series contains more than 10 installments, with millions of sales worldwide. The show's season 1 adapts the fifth book, The Devil's Star, from the original series. If Netflix renews the show, it has an abundance of source material to draw from. The Crime Drama Genre Keeps Getting Better On Streaming Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole is only one among the many crime thrillers that have been thriving on streaming right now. While Netflix has given us hit franchises like The Night Agent and The Lincoln Lawyer, Prime Video has become the king of dad shows with its successful adaptations like Reacher, Bosch, Cross, and Jack Ryan. Reacher and Bosch are also growing into full-fledged franchises with promising spin-offs. Apple TV, too, has been gradually catching up by delivering shows like Presumed Innocent, Sugar, and Slow Horses. Meanwhile, HBO has always been the streaming home for some of the best prestige crime dramas, like True Detective and Mare of Easttown. With many hit crime dramas set to return soon, and several new ones scheduled to premiere in the near future, it is hard not to believe that the crime drama genre will only get better on streaming. Hopefully, Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole on Netflix will also join the ranks among all the returning shows of the genre after its critical success.
