New details have emerged surrounding the secret multimillion-dollar compensation payment made to Brittany Higgins from the federal government.
Brittany Higgins was handed a secret compensation payment of up to $3 million after she claimed she was"medically unfit" for work and would lose 40 years’ worth of wages, a draft statement of claim has revealed.
On the day the trial collapsed, Ms Higgins announced she was pursuing a civil suit against her former employers - Michaelia Cash and Linda Reynolds - as well as the Commonwealth. “The claimant had a reasonable expectation of being promoted regularly and to eventually pursue her own political career, before suffering from the injuries and disabilities,” the document reads.
“The claimant’s hurt, distress and humiliation has been exacerbated as a result of the manner in which the individual respondents behaved at the time of the assault and during the subsequent handling of the matter, as well as a result of the toxic and harmful culture and work environment that the claimant was subjected to by the respondents,” it reads.
The document is an early draft of the claim with reports Ms Higgins received $3 million, but the former Liberal staffer has repeatedly disputed this.
