I’ve been writing about video games, television and movies for Forbes for over 10 years, and you may have seen my reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. I cover all manner of console and PC games, but if it’s about looting or shooting, I’m definitely there. If I’m watching something, it’s usually science fiction, horror or superheroic.
There was some debate about a new roadmap for Destiny 2 ’s New Frontiers era which said it would have “raids and dungeons” in its two smaller expansions over the course of the year.
There were two ways to read that, and I was convinced many were reading it wrong, as they were saying that since it was plural, that meant two raids and two dungeons a year. I thought the plurality was about the concept of expansions more generally and well, here we are.that there will be one raid and one dungeon per year now, assuming a Frontiers year does not get extended by any delays.
That’s no longer happening. The idea of any further reprised raids may in fact be dead, as that entire concept was not mentioned once here at all. That leaves Destiny 1’s Wrath of the Machine on the table indefinitely, what was considered probably the hardest raid to adapt, but one players wanted. It also may indicate that the vaulted Destiny 2 raids are never coming back either.
Very little about Frontiers reveals has gotten the community all that excited as a whole, though I think some aspects could be interesting like different formats for expansion campaigns each time. But yes, the fundamental truth is that this is all a lot…less that before, and that will continue on indefinitely from here.Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
