Steelers players seem to want Aaron Rodgers back, but it is not expected he will be the team's quarterback in 2026.
However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the organization remains open to Rodgers returning and players are even pushing for him to come back. “Almost all Steelers players praise Rodgers during their exit interviews, and most if not all of them want the veteran quarterback to return in 2026,”.
“His support among players was universal, and those around the organization pointed out how beloved and respected Rodgers was there.” Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says that Rodgers is not expected back with the Steelers, and the future of his career in general is up in the air. At 42-years-old, Rodgers could ride off into the sunset. “Mike Tomlin stepped down for the Pittsburgh Steelers, certainly a stunning move that leaves the future of Aaron Rodgers certainly in doubt. I would not expect him to return to Pittsburgh now that Mike Tomlin is not back,” Rapoport said. “What opportunities would Rogers actually take for another season is a very real question. We may have seen the last of Rodgers in the NFL.” Rodgers mulled retirement last offseason after two terrible seasons with the New York Jets following his Hall of Fame-caliber 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He joined Pittsburgh on a one-year contract in June 2025.
