'Descendants: The Rise of Red' star Kylie Cantrall says 'it was love at first sight' with costar Malia Baker during the casting process, and now they're best friends.

Sydney Bucksbaum is a writer at Entertainment Weekly covering all things pop culture – but TV is her one true love. She currently lives in Los Angeles but grew up in Chicago so please don't make fun of her accent when it slips out., the former instantly insults the latter. It takes them the entire movie to finally become friends by the end. But in real life, the costars instantly became besties — which made playing enemies a little trickier..

Cantrall was the first to be cast in the movie, and she remembers doing "hundreds" of chemistry reads with other actors auditioning for the role of Chloe. "I tell Malia this story all the time because I think it's so cute," she says. "Malia was the last girl that I read with, ever, for Chloe. I messaged the casting director separately, and I was like, 'She's the one; she's incredible.

Cantrall loved that first month before filming because it gave her and Baker and all their costars a lot of downtime to bond. "We were always together, and it felt like such a fun communal thing to be able to practice our dance routines together and feed off of each other's energy," she says. "And then we would go bowling after and hang out. We had more time to hang since we weren't filming yet, so we really got to establish our connection and bond.
