Gov. Ron DeSantis toured areas affected by Hurricane Ian on Sunday and pushed for expedited recovery efforts in Southwest Florida.

"This was such a big storm, that brought so much water, that you have basically what's been a 500-year flood event here in DeSoto County, and some of the neighboring counties," DeSantis said. There are currently 42,000 linemen responding to the more than 840,000 reported power outages, the governor's office said. More than 1.8 million customers across the state have had power restored.
"Being without power for a little bit of time is still an inconvenience, being without power for longer than that is a real drag, and we understand that," he said."I'm just glad there's a lot of resources working to get as quickly as possible."
