Gov. Ron DeSantis's (R-FL) presidential campaign team met with donors in Utah as the governor attempts to regroup his campaign after a disappointing start.
Campaign manager Generra Peck, pollster Ryan Tyson, political director Sam Cooper, and deputy campaign manager Ethan Eilon spoke to roughly 70 donors at the meeting over the weekend, CNN reported. DeSantis's team pitched to donors how they are changing up the campaign to reverse their fortunes, and they also took suggestions from the donors in a brainstorming session on Sunday on everything from how to change their messaging to how to deal with former President Donald Trump.
Nick Iarossi, a Florida lobbyist and fundraiser familiar with the matter, said that the meeting included donors “from all over the country, high-level folks who supported a variety of candidates in the last presidential.” “Everybody’s attitude was positive,” he continued, “but they know they need to continue to raise more money and we must continue to do better.”
Hal Lambert, an early DeSantis fundraiser who attended the meeting, told NBC News that he thinks there's"a possibility" that Trump may have to drop out of the race due to legal troubles, a remark which drew criticism from Trump's team, who interpreted it as him saying the campaign was wishing for a Trump indictment.
