NBC’s Chuck Todd suggested that Gov. Ron DeSantis is politicizing education after the Florida politician announced efforts to teach about communist regimes.
NBC's Chuck Todd claimed on Sunday's "Meet the Press" that Gov. Ron DeSantis is going out of his way to politicize history by pushing lessons on the evils of communism.
"We're also the first state in the country to establish every November 10, the day in our schools is earmarked to teach our students at all grade levels about the evils of communist regimes throughout history we're going to tell the truth about Marxism and Leninism," DeSantis said.Todd suggested that this initiative in particular appears to be DeSantis"going out of his way" to politicize teaching.
Politico senior political columnist Jonathan Martin agreed that DeSantis was politicizing the issue because countering"wokeism" is the only unifying Republican force. "Donald Trump is to Democrats what wokeism is to the GOP, and it is the singular cohesive, unifying force, okay? The backlash to the perceived excess of the left which is basically what wokeism is, is what galvanizes the GOP. It’s not any policy agenda. It’s that, so of course, he is playing into that," Martin claimed.
