'It is campaign season, and politicians are expected to attack each other’s records, but repeating the lies of the opposing party against one of your own is never a good look.' -conncarroll

It is campaign season, and politicians are expected to attack each other’s records, but repeating the lies of the opposing party against one of your own is never a good look. Unfortunately, that is exactly what Sen. Tim Scott tried to do against Gov. Ron DeSantis , but DeSantis offered a great response on Friday afternoon.

Last week, Vice President Kamala Harris attacked DeSantis at a speech in Indiana by falsely claiming that new public school history standards commissioned by DeSantis taught students that slavery was beneficial to slaves.Nothing could be further from the truth. The Florida standards do not say slavery benefited slaves, and they correctly teach that not all slaves were unskilled field hands. Many of them learned a professional trade, and some even were allowed to work and bought their freedom.

Instead of working with DeSantis to push back against Harris’s lies, Scott repeated her attack, telling reporters, “The truth is that anything you can learn, any benefits that people suggest you had during slavery, you would have had as a free person. … I would hope that every person in our country, and certainly running for president, would appreciate that.”

Asked by a reporter to respond specifically to Scott’s attack, DeSantis responded, “Part of the reason our country has struggled is because D.C. Republicans all too often accept false narratives, accept lies that are perpetrated by the Left. And to accept the lie that Kamala Harris has been perpetrating even when that has been debunked, that's not the way you do it. The way you lead is to fight back against the lies, is to speak the truth.
