DALLAS – To this day, there still are times when Derrick White can hear it. That loud, unmistakably gruff voice, reminding him of the same blunt orders it barked at him when he was a rookie. “Respect the game,” the voice says. “Respect the basketball gods.” Over time, White grew to better appreciate the wisdom in that directive.
