Killie manager has spoken of his pride at the Rugby Park academy product scooping the PFA Scotland young player of the year award.
And the Kilmarnock boss insists the midfielder shares the same hallmarks of two of his greatest proteges Scott McKenna and Lewis Ferguson. McInnes was delighted to see the teenager scoop the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year gong last weekend and follow that up with a nomination for the Scottish Football Writers’ award too.
“David has that, he’s become stronger and more confident. He’s always known what he’s good at and what he needs to improve on. Sometimes knowing your limitations and what you need to improve is a big part of it. Watson won the PFA Scotland award at the weekend after a season in which he’s played 42 times in a side that is sitting fourth and already clinched European football.
“He is a credit to his family. He is their boy but we feel like he’s ours to be honest, he’s been around the club for so long. We were so proud when he picked up his award. The fact he has been recommended by the sports writers as well is fantastic.
