Derek Carr has found his new team. The quarterback is closing in on a deal with the New Orleans Saints, according to multiple reports, with an agreement expected to be finalized by Monday afternoon.
The Saints were one of three known teams to express interest in Carr — who met with New Orleans in early February when the Raiders gave the 31-year-old permission to speak with other teams to explore a trade. Though no trade agreement was reached — Carr had a no-trade clause and was released last month — New Orleans maintained a strong interest in Carr once he hit the market.
Carr’s deal with the Saints comes a day after a report emerged that the quarterback slightly favored the New York Jets to be his next team. The Jets, however, are reportedly waiting to see if Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers becomes available, and so Carr made his move before then. The Saints have struggled to find stability at quarterback after Drew Brees retired in 2021. New Orleans went 7-10 last season with Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton under center. Dalton started 14 of those games.
