People stormed out of the courtroom when Brandon Froggatt's sentence was announced

A young Derby drug dealer disappeared to Tenerife after killing a father-of-two who had come to rob him. Brandon Froggatt stabbed Corey Duffy four times in Cooper Street before fleeing on an e-bike still clutching the blade.

"You stabbed him with a knife you took to Cooper Street where you were expecting to sell him drugs. You did not know Corey Duffy had other ideas, it is not disputed that he was there to steal your e-bike and that he was armed with a hammer. Mr Aspden said a supervisor at Burdett Lodge bail hostel in Bass Street called the police shortly before 4pm on the day of the killing to inform the police that Mr Duffy was lying on his back in a collapsed state, barely breathing, and covered in blood in the foyer. He had suffered four stab wounds to his body and was declared dead at the scene a short time later.

“Furthermore his E-Bike, the clothing and trainers that he had been wearing at the time of the killing, his rucksack, his sunglasses, his two mobile phones, and the large knife that he had used, were all missing. It became clear to the police that after the murder the defendant had disposed of all evidence that might link him to the stabbing, and that having done so he had left Derby.

The prosecutor said: “In the early hours of June 21, that is a week after the defendant had flown to Tenerife, he returned to the UK. Routine border checks at East Midlands Airport revealed that he was wanted, and he was arrested.” Mr Aspden read out to victim impact statements, one made by Mr Duffy’s mother, who works as a nurse and the other by his partner. In it she said: “ "He was cruelly taken away from us in the most horrendous circumstances. Corey was my only precious son and a piece of me is now missing that can never be replaced.
