Human remains found by a hiker over the weekend have been identified as Miriam Salgado, 46, who had been missing since 2021. Salgado is the aunt of Elizabeth Salgado, whose body was found in Hobble Creek Canyon in 2018, 3 years after her disappearance.
HURRICANE, Washington County — The human remains found by a hiker Saturday have been identified as a woman missing since 2021.
"Based off of the personal belongings left at the scene, investigators believe that the remains belong to 46-year-old ... Miriam Salgado, who was reported missing in 2021," according to a statement released Monday by the Washington County Sheriff's Office. "Miriam's family have been notified and we have offered our condolences."near Sheep Bridge Road in southwestern Utah Saturday. Dispatchers responded to the call around 1:54 p.m. and confirmed the remains were human.
Deputies said Salgado's vehicle was abandoned off Sheep Bridge Road near state Route 59 in September 2021. A search and rescue team searched the surrounding area at the time, but "were unable to locate Miriam or any signs that she was in the area at that time," deputies stated. Salgado's remains were sent to the Utah medical examiner for an autopsy. Investigators said they haven't found any suspicious circumstances, but the case is still ongoing., whose body was found in Hobble Creek Canyon in 2018 three years after her disappearance. It's unclear if Salgado's disappearance is related to the killing of Elizabeth Salgado, whose murder case is still unsolved.
