The Department of Justice is looking for a permanent Corrective Services Commissioner, who will take on the role after two deaths in juvenile detention in less than a year.

He has overseen significant changes in youth detention, including increased out-of-cell hours and more programs – although the Commissioner for Children and Young People recently reported those programs were often not tailored to the needs of individual young people.Secretary of the Prison Officers' Union, Andy Smith, said he hoped Commissioner Royce would apply for the position and continue in the role for another five years.
