The Department of Homeland Security is pausing a migrant sponsorship program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans due to fraud concerns among sponsors.The Department of Homeland Security has temporarily suspended its mass-parole program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans due to concerns about widespread fraud.
Up until June of this year, nearly 500,000 people from the four countries have flown into the U.S. since the program began in 2022, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.The concern seems to be with how many people financial sponsors agree to support. NBC 7 spoke to a woman from Venezuela, but has lived in the U.S. for nearly 25 years. She asked that we conceal her identity for safety reasons.
