KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans, especially those in Tawau district, have been urged to avoid panic-buying following the state's first confirmed Covid-19 case in Tawau.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew said health officials had taken necessary steps to handle the situation and things were under control statewide.She said a"fever centre" had been activated in Tawau and many of those who had come into contact with the infected person were being screened.

Liew, who is also Tawau MP, said some 350 people had attended a religious gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque in Kuala Lumpur, and one of the participants had tested positive for the virus.
