Washington and Fanning's reunion is official.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Hollywood stars Denzel Washington and Elle Fanning will finally share the screen again after appearing together in Man on Fire, but the reason for their reunion is much better than a sequel to that project. Man on Fire is a popular action-thriller that follows Washington’s character, Creasy, as he seeks revenge against those who kidnapped a young girl from his protection.
Although Man on Fire 2 won’t be happening any time soon, that doesn’t mean the original wasn’t enjoyable. The movie was part of a whole wave of action-thrillers that found huge success in the early 2000s, and Man on Fire displayed a longevity that most others didn’t achieve. Netflix is even making a Man on Fire show that proves just how long this property has remained popular.
Equalizer 3 Makes Denzel Washington & Elle Fanning's Reunion Feel New Washington and Fanning are going to share the screen once again in Equalizer 3, the upcoming addition in the beloved action franchise. Washington has starred in the series since 2014’s The Equalizer, playing the lead role of violent recluse Robert McCall, but Equalizer 3 will introduce Fanning’s character for the first time.
Bringing Washington and Fanning together for Man on Fire 2 would have felt almost the same as the original, with no clear way to revamp their characters or their dynamic. By casting Fanning in Equalizer 3, the filmmakers can capitalize on the pair’s chemistry without worrying about these issues, and that's bound to be more fun. Of course, their reunion will also serve as a subtle nod toward Man on Fire without mentioning it directly.
Man On Fire 2 Would Have A Difficult Time Explaining Denzel & Fanning's Reunion There’s a clear reason that Man on Fire 2 never happened, and that’s simply because the first movie wrapped everything up sufficiently. There were no loose ends that a sequel could have explored, and there's no clear reason for Washington and Fanning's characters to interact again. Their story ended in a good place, and having Creasy protect Pita once more would have felt forced.
