A seasonable weather weekend in the metro area, with strong winds and heightened fire concerns on Sunday, will give way to a chance for snow during the week.

Saturday in Denver skies will be mostly cloudy with a high temperature near 49 degrees, according to theSnow showers are expected in the northern mountains on Saturday evening and will continue overnight into Sunday. Winds will pick up in the mountains overnight, producing areas of blowing snow.

Sunday in Denver skies will be mostly sunny and the high temperature will climb to around 57 degrees, the weather service said. Winds will gust to about 45 mph along with low relative humidity — in the teens — raising fire concerns in parts of the metro area. A fire weather watch is posted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday for Denver, north Douglas County below 6,000-feet elevation, west Adams and Arapahoe counties, and east Broomfield County, the weather service said.

“Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread,” the weather service warns. People are asked to avoid outdoor burning and activities that produce a spark or flame. Snow forms in the mountains tonight and increases Sunday with the heaviest amounts over the northern mountains. Fire Danger will increase on Sunday across the plains and Denver area with wind gusts to 40 to 50 mph.
