Wildfires that start Sunday have the potential to spread fast amid low humidity and windy weather, according to the National Weather Service at Boulder. The Denver metro was under a fire weather watch Sunday, while most of southeastern Colorado saw red flag warnings.

Red flag warnings were issued Sunday for the foothills south of Boulder, as well as most of the state south of Castle Rock. Denver, Boulder and Greeley were warned with the the less severe fire weather watch. Denver’s weather was expected to be sunny and breezy with a high near 80 degrees Sunday. Gusty winds were expected to blow as high as 28 mph, according to the National Weather Service at Boulder.
