Denver East High School's parent volunteers are urgently seeking a suitable space to pre-build sets for the annual After Prom event, a safe and free alternative to post-prom gatherings. The volunteers have been searching for months but have yet to find a space that meets their criteria.

Denver East High School is facing a dilemma in its preparations for the annual After Prom event, a cherished tradition dating back to the 1980s. This year, the dedicated group of parent volunteers organizing After Prom is struggling to find a suitable space to pre-build the elaborate sets that transform the school into a vibrant celebration. After Prom is a free, safe, and secure alternative to post-prom gatherings, designed to minimize risks associated with drinking and driving.

For years, the volunteers have relied on a Bed Bath & Beyond in Cherry Creek, but with the store undergoing redevelopment, they have been forced to seek a new location. The search for a suitable venue has proven challenging. The volunteers have scoured the city, exhausted their personal networks, and repeatedly reached out to the school, but haven't found the perfect space. They are looking for a space between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet, with access to bathrooms and running water, available from February through mid-May. Ideal candidates include empty warehouses, vacant retail spaces, large industrial spaces, church basements, or fellowship halls—any commercial spaces that can comfortably accommodate the teams of builders who pour their heart and soul into creating the magical experience for the students. The space donation is tax-deductible through the East High School PTSA. Amy Decamillis, a parent volunteer, emphasizes the importance of After Prom, stating, 'I think our students at East High really deserve such a special send-off. They've had a few challenging years, and they've totally persevered.' She appeals to the community, urging anyone with leads or connections to reach out to the 2025 East After Prom Parent Committee via email at [email protected]. The committee is also accepting donations to help cover the rental costs of a suitable space.
