The Denver Broncos Foundation is providing a significant boost to player safety and financial well-being for Colorado high schools by donating top-of-the-line football helmets to all 277 tackle football programs in the state. This four-year commitment represents the foundation's largest philanthropic investment to date.

The Denver Broncos Foundation is making a historic commitment to player safety and financial relief for Colorado high schools by donating 15,516 top-of-the-line football helmets to all 277 high school tackle football programs in the state. Over the next four years, starting this fall, this donation will mark the foundation's single largest philanthropic investment.

Allie Engelken, Vice President of Community Development for the Denver Broncos Foundation, explained that football helmets are the most expensive piece of equipment required for tackle football, creating financial hurdles for many schools. 'It’s money that we’re going to save at schools, at school districts,' said Brandon Havard, Athletic Director at Loveland High School. 'We’re able to allocate that money that we would’ve spent on new helmets, or reconditioning helmets, and we’re able to put that towards other programs or other needs whether it’s facilities or uniforms or you name it.'Engelken emphasized that the savings generated by this donation will ripple throughout other athletic programs. Some schools have expressed plans to upgrade their gyms, purchase new uniforms, and invest in other crucial areas. Beyond the financial benefits, Havard highlighted the safety advantages these helmets offer. He praised the technology embedded in the Ridell Axiom helmets, such as their data-recording capabilities, which will provide coaches with valuable insights into player impacts and game dynamics. 'Safety is always first and with these helmets having the technology in them for coaches to go back and be educated and look at the data from games and from hits and things like that and see what’s actually going on, I think that’s huge,' Havard stated. This initiative has already set a precedent, inspiring other NFL teams to consider similar endeavors.
