Saudi Arabia hosted its first ever professional snooker tournament earlier this week

Dennis Taylor has offered a passionate defence of snooker's top stars competing in Saudi Arabia despite widespread criticism over the country’s record on human rights and accusations of ‘sports-washing’.

Allen insisted he had no reservations about competing at the tournament, adding that he refused to "get involved in any of the politics". Former World champion Taylor agrees, and says the world's top players shouldn't be criticised for accepting an offer to play in Saudi Arabia. “I mean, that's life changing, for a lot of these, and not only young new players, but some players that have been around a while that could change their life completely if they could manage to win one of those big, big events.”
