Presenter and actress Denise Van Outen says she's got better at dealing with heartbreak
When OK! catches up with Denise Van Outen she is on a high, having just finished touring the UK as a judge with The Masked Singer Live.
“I don’t know about that,” she laughs. “But if they asked, I’d do it. The tour will be happening again next year, so I’m hoping we’ll all get invited back!” Denise has also been working on her own music and she’s DJing at a number of festivals this summer. But she also tells us her next goal is to land a role in a play.
But she says, “I’ve got too much self-respect and I just can’t live like that. I felt like, in a few selfish moments, he’d ruined it. I couldn’t imagine it ever feeling the same.” “It gave me an opportunity to really appreciate some of the things that I’ve done,” she says. “When I went to New York to do Chicago on Broadway and I’d only just split up with [Jamiroquai singer] Jay [Kay], my memories of that are that I was still really quite heartbroken.
“Now I know you have to do self-care and keep your diary busy but I was only young, so I moped around far too long. Now, I handle things totally differently.”So much so that Denise says the “worst part” of the break-up was sharing the news with her daughter, who she shares with ex-husband Lee Mead. “It tore me apart watching her cry while I tried to make her understand,” says the TOWIE narrator.
