Western Visayas has recorded more than 1,800 cases of dengue this year so far, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Western Visayas Center for Health Development - Dengue and Malaria Program.

Western Visayas has recorded more than 1,800 cases of dengue this year so far, according to the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development - Dengue and Malaria Program.A total of 1,830 dengue cases were reported in the region from January 1 to March 23, according to a report on GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita on Wednesday. The DOH said this is 5% higher compared to the 1,742 cases recorded during the same period last year.

No new fatalities due to dengue were reported as the death toll remained at three as of March 23, according to the DOH.Dengue is a viral infection caused by the dengue virus which could be transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes, according to the World Health Organization .Symptoms of dengue include high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and rashes. On March 1, the DOH said the number of dengue cases nationwide has decreased.
