Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have written to Attorney General Merrick Garland, urging him to take immediate steps to preserve all Department of Justice (DOJ) records related to investigations and prosecutions, particularly in light of Trump attorney general nominee Pam Bondi's confirmation hearing. The letter highlights concerns that Bondi, known for her staunch defense of former President Trump, may attempt to influence or obstruct ongoing investigations, particularly those concerning Trump himself.

“In light of these threats, it is critical that the Department take immediate preservation steps related to these investigations and prosecutions,” the Democrats wrote. Bondi has been warmly welcomed by Senate Republicans during meetings on Capitol Hill, but Durbin remains dissatisfied with her nomination and has signaled her hearing will be contentious. In addition to the letter to Garland, Durbin described Bondi’s “troubling history of unflinching loyalty to the president-elect” as he previewed her hearing on the Senate floor on Monday.
