Democrats Marcy Kaptur and Emilia Sykes try to hold off Republican challengers

U.S. Rep. Emilia Sykes, an Akron Democrat, was ahead of GOP challenger Kevin Coughlin as election results were being tallied.CLEVELAND, Ohio - Democratic U.S. Congress members Emilia Sykes and Marcy Kaptur were counting on incumbency and lots of campaign money to secure re-election despite representing GOP-leaning congressional districts in year when GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump was expected to win Ohio.

“We face many problems in this country and the folks of Northeast Ohio have trusted me with the opportunity to represent their values in DC and fight to move the ball forward,” said a statement from Miller. “I plan on doing just that to help our families struggling with high costs and finally protect our national security.”

Ohio’s most prominent Republican House of Representatives member, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Champaign County, was easily reelected in the sprawling 4th congressional district. FEC records show he spent nearly $13 million on his reelection by the end or September, compared with nearly $1.9 million for Democrat Tamie Wilson of Delaware County.

Latta had spent $2.2 million on his reelection bid by the end of September, compared with almost $11,000 from Mundy.
