Following Friday night’s declaration that Cortez Masto’s colleague in Arizona, Mark Kelly, had defeated the far-right G.O.P.

On Saturday night, minutes after the Nevada race was called, Chuck Schumer, the current and future Senate Majority Leader, spoke to reporters and identified three reasons why his party retained control of the upper chamber: strong candidates, a record of legislative achievement, and a flawed opposition.

With Trump set to announce his 2024 candidacy on Tuesday, one of the central results of the midterms has been to strengthen the conviction of many Republican strategists that he is an anvil weighing on the Party in national elections.
