House Democrats are raising alarm bells over the recent dismissals of Justice Department employees who worked on the Trump investigations, alleging political motivations and potential legal violations.

House Democratic leaders are expressing serious concerns over the recent dismissals and reassignments of career Justice Department employees who previously worked for former special counsel Jack Smith .

In a letter addressed to the Justice Department, Representatives Jamie Raskin and Gerald Connolly, the highest-ranking Democrats on the House Judiciary and House Oversight committees, assert that the terminations were conducted 'without regard to their demonstrated competencies' and 'very likely violated longstanding federal laws.'The letter specifically criticizes Acting Attorney General James McHenry's decision to fire approximately a dozen Justice Department employees involved in the investigation and prosecution of President Trump. Democrats also accuse the department's leadership of rescinding job offers to summer interns and entry-level attorneys, as well as having White House staff scrutinize social media profiles of department employees to gauge their political affiliations. Raskin and Connolly express deep worry that these actions indicate a deliberate attempt to populate the ranks of the DOJ and FBI with individuals chosen for their personal loyalty or political service to President Trump. They demand detailed explanations regarding the rationale behind selecting those who have been fired or reassigned. A Justice Department official, speaking to CBS News, stated that McHenry believed these officials could not be trusted to faithfully execute the president's agenda due to their significant involvement in prosecuting him. The official also confirmed that other unfired employees have been involuntarily reassigned, leading to at least one resignation by a long-serving senior career lawyer at the department
